EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Safetylyne was engaged to deliver a tailored access and safety solution for the Fairfax Shopping Centre, aimed at improving access to rooftop HVAC and air conditioning systems.

The project involved the design, manufacture, installation, and certification of lightweight aluminium plant decks fitted with powder-coated acoustic louvre screens, purpose-built to house HVAC units while helping to reduce noise.

A full roof safety system was also installed, including access walkways and a secure anchor system for compliant plant and roof maintenance. The outcome was a durable, lightweight solution that met all safety standards while preserving the building’s functionality and visual appeal.

IN SITU

Installing the HVAC plant decks, acoustic louvre screens, and roof safety systems during the construction phase of the commercial precinct was a smart and efficient decision.

Early installation allowed the systems to be fully integrated into the building design, avoiding retrofitting works and reducing disruption risks once the site became operational. While it’s possible to install HVAC access systems after a building is completed, planning ahead during construction usually delivers better long-term results - improving cost efficiency, design integration, and ease of future maintenance.

When selecting materials for the project, Safetylyne chose aluminium for its strength, corrosion resistance, and lightweight properties - ideal for managing rooftop loads and ensuring long-term durability, particularly in coastal environments. The powder-coated finish on the acoustic louvre screens added further protection while helping reduce visual and noise impact.

The completed solution ensures safe, compliant rooftop access for maintenance teams, supporting ongoing plant servicing without interfering with daily site operations.

By considering future maintenance needs at the design stage, the project delivered a practical and sustainable outcome for building managers and asset owners, enhancing the long-term performance and maintainability of the facility.
