Pump Station Access Systems
Pump Station Access Solutions platforms, walkway and other essential safety systems for Water, Wastewater, Mining and Industrial Facilities.
Pump stations demand more from access systems than most industrial assets.
Operators service pumps, check valves, read instrumentation and respond to alarms on a regular cycle - often in below-grade environments with restricted clearance, chemical exposure and limited ventilation.
Safetylyne engineers, manufactures, installs and certifies pump station access systems for water utilities, councils, civil contractors and asset owners across Australia. Every system is designed to the specific asset - valve chamber geometry, structural connections, chemical environment and site configuration, and fabricated in our Australian workshop.
Pump Station Configurations Safetylyne Designs Access For
Safetylyne designs access systems for all pump station types:
- Above-ground and kiosk-style pump stations - elevated walkways, equipment access platforms and guardrail systems
- Booster pump stations - plant room stair access, valve maintenance platforms and guardrails
- Sewage pumping stations - pump station access platforms, safety grilles and retrieval anchor systems
- Water supply and irrigation pump stations - stair systems, platforms and guardrails for pressurised network maintenance, pipelines crossover bridges
- Mining dewatering pump stations - heavy-duty access platforms and walkways for pit dewatering and process pump maintenance
- Industrial and manufacturing pump stations custom access platforms for chemical transfer, process fluid and effluent pump systems
- Wet well submersible pump stations - wet well access platforms, fixed ladders and davit arm systems
- Dry well and wet well stations - stair access valve chamber platforms and fall protection at each opening
- Liquid storage pumps and tanks at pump station sites often require coordinated access design across both assets. See pump station access systems
- Other water infrastructure and water treatment plants access solutions
Pump Station Access Platforms
Fixed elevated platforms are the core access solution where operators need a stable, compliant work position above hatches, valve chambers or process equipment.
Safetylyne custom-engineers each platform to the pump station layout - accounting for hatch position, structural fixing points, operational clearances and load requirements. Platform systems include:
- Single-level platforms at wet well and valve chamber openings
- Multi-level platforms where pumps or instrumentation sit at different heights
- Perimeter walkways around above-ground pump station enclosures
- Gantry platforms over pipework and process equipment
- Modular platform systems for staged infrastructure upgrades
All platforms fabricated in structural aluminium, designed to AS 1657:2018 and certified on installation.
Corrosion-Resistant Materials and Australian Standards Compliance
Aluminium does not rust, needs no coating maintenance, and performs reliably in humid, chemically active and outdoor pump station environments.
Painted steel corrodes and creates ongoing maintenance obligations that aluminium can avoid.
All systems designed and certified to:
- AS 1657:2018 - Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders
- AS/NZS 1891.4:2009 - Industrial fall arrest systems and devices
- AS 2865 - Confined spaces
- AS 1664.1:1997 - Aluminium structures
- WHS Act and Regulations
Full compliance documentation, as-built drawings and certification on every project.

Australian Standards and Material Specifications for Water Infrastructure Access
Safetylyne uses structural aluminium throughout its water infrastructure access systems.
Aluminium performs where steel corrodes in humid plant environments, near chlorination and chemical dosing equipment, and on exposed tank and reservoir structures.
It does not require ongoing coating maintenance and carries no risk of contamination from corrosion near potable water assets.
All systems are designed and certified to relevant Australian Standards, including:
- AS 1657:2018 - Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders
- AS 2865 - Confined spaces (where applicable)
- AS 1664.1:1997 - Aluminium Structures
Work Health and Safety obligations under the WHS Act apply to all permanent access structures. Safetylyne provides full compliance documentation as part of every project delivery.
